Counsel that sees the whole picture

Thienel Law was built on a simple conviction: the most important legal decisions a business owner or family makes do not stay in their own lane. Business, tax, and estate planning are one continuous strategy — and they deserve a single advisor who treats them that way.

A practice grounded in economics and tax

Before law, Stephen Thienel studied economics — including graduate work connected to Nobel-laureate research at Virginia Tech. That training in how incentives and capital actually move informs how he reads a deal, a tax position, or an estate plan today.

An LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Baltimore sharpened that perspective into a practice where tax is never an afterthought. The result is counsel that anticipates consequences — across the business, the balance sheet, and the next generation.

How we work

Clients work directly with Stephen — not a rotating cast of associates. Advice is delivered in plain language, with a clear view of where things stand and what comes next. The goal is not a single transaction handled, but a relationship that makes every future decision easier.
